Bonsai Mirai Portfolio. What are your favorites?
« on: January 08, 2013, 01:08 AM »
I've sure enjoyed looking through Ryan's portfolio.

http://www.bonsaimirai.com/portfolio/

I'm curious

*What do you consider the top 10 best trees in this portfolio?
-You can list in no particular order or in order

*What are your favorite 10 trees in this portfolio?
-Does it differ from what you consider the best?

It would be easier to list the "least" favorite.  They are all great.

Wow!  Picking 10 is a daunting task.  I'm going to have to come back to this.  (Picking *A* favorite would be easier than choosing the top 10!)

Ha ha thanks for the comments.  Yes i'd love to hear just your first fav or whatever you would like.  I guess the questions I asked are a bit involved and time consuming.  I've spent ALOT of time looking and re looking at Ryan's portfolio.

Here are my favorite trees-probably what I consider the best trees too except I would debate about 3-4 of them.  In no particular order.

Rockies
RMJ #18
RMJ #17
RMJ #43
RMJ #56
PP#25
PP#11
PP #9

Students Work
Sierra Juniper #1 Larry

Japan
JWP #2

CA Desert
Naka CA Juniper

Hours of study here, just to pick ten.  I thank you for the thread.
I've seen the JWP#02 before, and it is one of my favorite trees, so if I had to pick one, from one go round, it would probably be that one.

Wow i'm kind of surprised to see two votes for JWP #2 as the best.  I really like it as well, I would just assume that those collected RMJ's and PP's would get all the votes.

Love 'em all. I am fascinated by the West Coast evergreens, esp. pines. Enjoyed looking at these the most, at least today.

Limber Pines 1,2,3

Lodgepole no. 1

Pygmy Cypress no. 1.

Ryan's material and work is breathtaking and his work ethic is evident. Mr. Kimura's time was well spent with Mr. Neil.

(I'd like to know if he can develop bonsai from seeds - ha ha just kidding!)

Best,

Augustine
Central MD - zone 7A

For me, it's because its such a distinctive JWP.  It doesn't look at all like a stylized version that is the norm.  Or at least what I've seen to be the norm.  I would love to have a JWP such as this.
