Bonsai in Orlando,Fl.
« on: May 09, 2011, 05:42 AM »
I'm sure this has been asked here many times, I did a quick search but didn't find much.

I'm in Florida, based in Orlando, for 4 weeks this July and would love to either, visit a Bonsai Nursery, or just see bonsai somewhere. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I'm on holiday with the family but a fellow club mate is also there at the same time and we are hoping to get a day pass to looking for wee trees  ;D

The closest place I know of is here:

It's about an hour drive from Orlando.

D&L Nursery isn't too far.  It's North of town towards Ocala.  Maybe a 2 hour drive, depending on where in Orlando you're staying.

Of course, if you're willing to drive 2 hours, Jim Smith's nursery 'Durastone' is about that far South.

too bad you will miss our annual Florida convention in June.....

however, i think this will be worth a trip:   Jim Smith, premier bonsai artist, has donated over 100 of his incredible bonsai trees to the Heathcote Gardens.   The grand opening is May 21.   This promises to be the largest collection of tropical bonsai in the country.   the flyer is linked to the state's website

check it out at www.bonsai-bsf.com     which is the website for all the clubs in the state.   surf around, check out the clubs and newsletters, there may be a meeting or two nearby or an event that you can also attend.
