1st Snow STL of 2010
« on: December 12, 2010, 10:16 AM »
Good Morning All,

St. Louis is receiving its first blanket of snow for the season. As you know most of my trees are wintered in an unheated pool cabana however now that the collection has grown I winter some of my larger trees outside. The walls of the winter storage box are made of the cinderblocks that form my benches and there is a plastic top to let in light. When bad weather is forecast the boards of the benches go on top to keep the snow from bring down the plastic. There are then removed once the storm stops. Shim & I used this method last year to great success. The box is full this year. I'll have to get up a greenhouse next year!

What I wouldn't give to be back in Sunny Southern California, Zone 8. Plenty of humidity and all that makes a bonsai grower happy.

Just my take, I could be wrong however given the number of bonsai suppliers I don't think so. Even Mr. Naka liked it.

We have flakes here all year long, but only about 4 months of snow.

We had an inch or two yesterday that melted fairly quickly in the afternoon sun.

However, it was 7 degrees this morning!
