Title: Big Box Buys
Post by: Sorce on December 19, 2013, 06:54 AM
Passing directly over the bent over Juniper whips, I noted the local big box store has a lot of little potted spruce and boxwood on discount. Good deal for anyone learning, maybe even some good material.

Rosemary too, not the greatest material, but cheap.

I expect everything will be even cheaper in a few days.

I'm guessing this is a nationwide phenomenon.

Good luck!

So I didn't intend to purchase anything before. But circumstances allowed for this to be my X-mas tree!

Upon inspection, some quality boxwood are present.

This is a clump down under. Sitting in clay, under loose top soil, the nebari looks promising, though I may uncover some faults in spring, it seems quite radial and uniform.

A clump of three nicely separated triple trunks, you will see progress this spring.

I hope someone joins me in this endeavor. As $50 is now 25. 25 is 10$. When they hit $ 5 my wife is gonna hit me. I'll buy 5 more!  ;)

First lesson in bonsai: cheap isn't necessarily good.

I never would have passed my "free" spending limit. ;)
