The Bunker has a great post about the BIB show this year, wanted to say congrats to Kirby, that is a great tree and display.  Adair's tree is looking great too.

Thanks Judy, it was really good to see Al and his wife there, got to chat and then got on to the Auction. I think you are talking about the cascade JBP? I also had a Lemon Hill Juniper,  Japanese Maple and 3 Shohin.

My wife thought John was a hoot. She liked Adairs accent. She's a pushover for a good Southern Man.

Adair's pine, and John's cascade as well as the Lemon hill.

//EDIT; Accent as in talking not accent plant, although she loved the driftwood stand as did I.

There is something about that juniper that I really like.  I can't figure out what it is, but I really like it.

Great trees in those photos, and a room full of smooth talkers....

Don, the Juniper is a lemon hill. It was in the ground a long time, not sure if in Landscape of on of the hundreds field grown at Sumigawa's Nursery in Cotati, California. Akio Kondo styled it in 1995abd it went to the Central Valley. When Boon got it back in 2010 it was in very poor condition and he repotted it, I bought it in 2011 and it was styled in 2013. Daisaku Nomoto prepared it for show this year. It is shown potted in an older pot by Gyouzan, a tremendous contemporary Jspanese potter. The pot is about 18" wide.

I wonder if we'll see any new tree of the month entries next month?  ;)

Might it be that the secondary trunk/branch is a negative of the primary?

That is what catches my eye - the dead wood is centered between two live veins on the primary versus, live vein in the middle on the secondary.

Yes, the cascade John.  It's wonderful.  Intricate without seeming to be...a hard thing to achieve.

would look nice in the header ;)

So, we have noticed over the years that bunjin, forest and "unique" trees never win members choice awards. We have a number of amazing trees that don't fit the traditional model. This year, Boon and the show committee decided to add this category. We will see what next year brings.
