International Bonsai Magazine
Bonsai Focus
ABS Journal
Bonsai & Stone Appreciation Magazine (BCI)
Golden Statements (Golden State Bonsai Federation)

And, if you're so inclined you could always subscribe to Kinbon which you could get from a few places, including International Bonsai and Bonsai Network Japan among other places I'm sure.

The older ones featuring translated Japanese articles were very good.  Bonsai Today was bought out by Bonsai Focus a few years ago.

I agree that several of the older Bonsai Today are the best.  With any of these English Bonsai Magazines you will find some good articles and many so so or bad articles.  Often I figure out who the author is first before really trying to study any article.  I also feel I learn a lot and maybe even more from studying the Kokufu books.  I might recommend them if you were planning on putting some money into Bonsai reading material.

Bonsai Focus or International Bonsai, I have all 134 BonsaiToday/Bonsai Focus (US english), was an early choice. I get the International Bonsai editions with specific articles that I want. John

I'd put Bonsai International at the the top of the list. Bonsai Focus is waaaay too focused on European bonsai, IMO. I dropped my subscription because I got tired of looking at the same european species being styled by the sam european "masters."

I'm not saying BF doesn't offer good articles. It just doesn't offer many articles that are really relevant to practicing bonsai in the U.S. Bonsai International is published in the U.S. by a long-time U.S. bonsai master. ABS Journal is another good publication that has articles that are actually pertinent to US growers, including articles on native species and collection.

I actually think Bonsai Focus is much more diverse than that, as Europe is a big place.  Also, Ryan Neil, Boon Manakitivipart, Bjorn Bjorholm, and Michael Hagedorn have been featured artists.  There was a nice article by Randy Clark recently.  There are also a number of Japanese articles translated and reprinted.  I think the variety is quite refreshing.  It's nice to see what bonsai artists are doing all over the world.

Bonsai Focus would be my first choice, with John Kirby's suggestion of picking up International Bonsai for specific articles of interest.  Of course, ABS and BCI have the added membership benefits of their respective organizations.

Count me in on the Bonsai Focus camp. But really, just bite the bullet and subscribe to Bonsai Focus and International Bonsai...

I have subscribed to Golden Statements from California for about 15 years now (along with all the other ones I subscribe to).  For the money it is quite good.  I'm not voting for best here but just plugging it's attributes.  Much of each issue focuses on local California club / tree info but there is always something good to gleam from each issue.  Now that you can view them for free online, I would highly recommend them:
