Title: WTB Collected California Juniper stock
Post by: cbobgo on April 12, 2012, 11:06 PM
I'm still on the hunt for collected California Junipers that are established in their pots after collecting, but have not been styled yet.  Anyone have these for sale or know of anyone who knows anyone who might know someone who has them?

the crazy thing is that there are literally hundreds and hundreds of collected cal. Junipers that are doing great after being collected years and years ago. The problem is that they are being sort of hoarded and not sold. Im not sure what the wait is. Maybe they are waiting for the economy to return so they can make more money? Who knows. Maybe they didnt think this far ahead and their ability to show and sell is just not there. You can try David/June Nguy here in so. california as they have atleast a 100 and they actively sell trees, pots, soil and tools. Ill get the number this weekend at the convention if you cant come up with it.

thanks again nathan.  I've totally gotten out of the habit of calling people that I have not first contacted via email or some other online way.

Hey Bob,
Maruyama Nursery in Sacramento has a bunch. Al Keppler took some pictures recently and posted them here:

Hey Bob,
I went by the nursery and it was closed.  Sorry, I did plan on going there but it just did not work out. Maybe a phone call would get you approximate prices. I called them a few times while I was up and got no answer so you may need to try several times. I'll be going up again in July or August and may try calling ahead to make sure they will be there. I did get to peak inside the fenced area and was drooling over a few trees.

David will be doing California junipers as a workshop at the GSBF convention in Sacramento this year. He has two spots at $300.00 and two spots at $425.00. Earlybird gets the workshop. Registrations are being accepted now!

and speaking of the convention in sacramento, there will probably ca, sierra and even rocky mountain junipers for sale like crazy from the vendors  (it is a california natives theamed show this year).
Vendors like the Nguy's and the Shimon's that have a reputation for quality will assure you get a tree that was not just ripped out of the ground last winter or last weekend! remember, you will get what you paid for. A decent Cali with good movement and potential, that has lots of new growth after the second year of collection, will set you back a little $, but you will end up with something nice long after the bite to your wallet has healed.

I for one will be looking for those crazy loads of Sierra and  RMJ's since I have seen one or two in thirty years of conventions.
