Ume

Judy:
My first ume.  I have lots to learn I'm sure, but I am enjoying the very strong shoot growth.  I have repotted and wired this out, and am happy to see it being so vigorous. Looks like I need to get back in and rewire the shoots again, they are outgrowing the wire!

Nice little tree, Judy.

Judy:
Thanks Zach, I can look forward to winter more now...I'll have to start figuring out what level of winter protection to give this one.  And also wonder if it can come inside for the flowering cycle, or if that would be harmful to the tree.  If it only needs a short dormancy, I suppose it could stay inside after flowering with my other trees that winter inside if it breaks dormancy.  Anybody up north have a protection scheme that they'd like to share?  I have all kinds of zones for different trees that need winter protection, just trying to determine where this one will fit in.

SHIMA1:
Nice stubby little tree Judy. It almost looks like it's on a rock. In fact I like the whole composition.
I tried to hop on the ume craze, really I did, what's not to love? But no matter what I did I couldn't conquer the fungus problem.

Judy:
So I have heard a bit about this fungus problem from some, but don't really know what it's all about.  Anyone care to enlighten me?  Is it in specific climates, or just a problem with this specie?
