Berberis Thunbergii from nursery stock
« on: March 17, 2012, 12:56 PM »
I found this at a local nursey a couple of weeks ago in the yellow tagged area. Very reasonable at $9. It was originally in a 1 gal pot and unfortunately I do not have any before pictures but I chopped it back pretty hard and removed about 1/3 of the rootball. It just came into leaf three days ago. It is 6 inches tall from soil level and the trunk base is just at 1 inch.

Looks a little different than mine do, so I am assuming it isn't a Crimson Pigmy?  Barberry are pretty forgiving, it looks like you did well with removing everything down to the main trunkline, it will grow like crazy this year.

I am guessing it is the Bonanza Gold variety as the leaves are yellow green. It was yellow tagged only as berberis when I found it. Thank you Matt. I was wondering if I chopped a little too much at first but now it is leafing out really well. I found one pick I took of it after removing it from it's nursery pot and placing it in the aquatic pot it is now in.
