Fall is coming to the benches
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:20 PM »
Evening All,

A little bit of fall color has started to come to the benches. The berries on this little guy have started to blush before turning a deep red this winter. This little tree is nothing special but I am growing it especially for the red berries that will grace the benches in the pool cabana where I over winter my Shohin. I hope you are all enjoying your trees that we have officially entered fall. Another growing season is coming to an end. Regards, JRob

PS: The cream colored pot was picked not only because it was made by Max Braverman but because of its color to offset the bright red fruit.

Rob,

Funny, I live in a warmer zone and my pyracantha berries are already orange. My species is 'Red Elf.'

Your tree is beautiful. The styling on mine is very incomplete. It could be better but additional pruning would have eliminated all the fruit. More work next year...

I'll post a picture soon.

Regards,

Augustine

Nice Rob!  How fast do pyracantha grow/trunk girth/branch development?  I'm not at all familiar with this species other than I love it, esp. with the fall berries.

All thanks for the comments. Chrisi not sure. I know that it seems to be a fast grower since I've had it (2 yrs) Others who are more familiar with the species should chime in. Like I said before it was an inexpensive way to add some color to my winter benches in the pool cabana. JRob

Thanks Rob.  I did a successful air layer this summer from a friend's friend.  But only was able to get part of the tree that had straight trunks.  So I was thinking of doing a chop, and regrow to gain some movement.   Glad to hear it's a fast grower.  I miss the berries on mine this yr. so I love seeing your tree.

Judy just got back from a visit to Yale with my son and I was delighted to see the deepening of the red of the Firethorn's berry's now that the night time temps have begun to drop. Here is the picture you asked for. JRob

Thank you JRob, I like how some of them are still amber, the colors together with that pot are very nice.
