Fertilizer
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:43 PM »
Hey guys,

As you noticed on the Fruiting and Flowering discussion, I recently purchased my first Bougainvillea. The season is coming to an end and we are entering the growing season of spring. I never had an experience with Bougainvilleas so I need the forum's advice on fertilizer; therefore, I would like to know what you guys think would be the best fertilizer? my tree did not arrive yet because the weather in NYC is still very cold. I will definitely post pictures as soon as it arrives and share my learning experience here.

Thanks,
Nick

Most of my flowering/fruit trees I use organic cakes on.  But my bourganvillea never looked as happy as I thought it should look with organic fertilizing.

2 years ago I picked up a can of fertilizer at home depot called Bougain.  Since then it almost never stops growing and flowering.  It's a chemical fertilizer but bourgies like it and it's relatively cheap, comparable to osmocote.

Thank you. Pretty awesome to see someone on here from my area. It is a very rare occasion. Are you part of any local clubs?

I'm a member of the BSOP in portland "not local" but I will be getting to travel there a lot as a friend is in the process of moving there.  Travel down to do bonsai with a couple members of the arlington/washington club, but i'm not a on the books member there.  How about you?
