Title: Willow care
Post by: Gaffer on July 03, 2013, 11:40 AM
Gaffer. Having a little problem with dieback on my willow after winter sleep. Is this normal or can I do something to stop this.

Hi Gaffer,

What willow? Do you have pictures?

I would imagine that if you're experiencing die-back, extra protection might mitigate that to some extent.

Sometimes it's necessary to let a willow "rest" for a year in a grow pot as sometimes bonsai culture causes them to she'd branches.  I do two years in a bonsai pot and one in a nursery container.  Winter die-back of small shoots is common even with protection at least for me.

I defer to experience.  (See above.)

Gaffer here
Thanks Owen, I think your right. It's a huge cutting from my curly willow. This is first year in pot. As last year it was living ing my pond as a huge cutting, 10" diameter. Nature is so amazing.
