I wonder if anyone here has had any experience with Montpelier (or sometimes spelled with 2 L's) Maple, Acer monspesulanum.  They do not seem widely used as bonsai, but seem to have good characteristics.  Small leaves, spring flowers, good fall color...
I would like to know if there would be any developmental tricks to these, as I have read that they are slower growers, and slow to heal wounds.  I've found a nice stock trunk, that I'll be starting to develop branching on next season.  Thanks!

The leaves are similar in shape, they are actually more heat and drought tolerant than acer campestre, but not as winter hardy.
