Large trident maple project
« on: March 27, 2015, 07:54 PM »
This is a very large trident that I got from Don Blackmond last fall.  I've been working on it throughout the winter, and just finished up the preliminary styling.  Here are several progression photos.

For scale the tub that I overwintered it in was 24" wide.  It's a large tree.   Here are some photos of the finished first editing and wiring, and in a really great pot.

I'm loving the nebari and the bark. Excellent pot as well.

I got lucky with the pot, the minute I saw it, I knew it was perfect for the tree.  Happily it was just big enough, although I did some major root surgery to get it in there.

Hi John, yeah, what's not to love about the base on that!

This tree came out of an old field of tridents in Georgia. Had one of the best bases of the 110 or so we dug over a couple of days. Fran Kroeker got if from me and then must have spld it to Don. They were 25-27 years old when dug in 2004. Nice development.

Yes indeed John, good times.  Don't think I could do that today.

Well, now I have two Frank Kroeker/ Don Blackmond trees.  Lucky me.
