1) As a general point, I would say that you should think about what the problems are.
This is pretty simple to tree to look at, right now. You can easily see every branch, every junction, every angle. That makes it easier to figure out.
So, think about potential fronts to show off the characteristics you like. For each of those, what are the problems or flaws that really bother YOU? Similarly, are there areas where something seems to YOU to be missing.
That would lead you to figure out what you might want to remove, reshape or even add (i.e., wait for something to grow or try an appropriate form of grafting).
2) Another approach might be to stick it in the ground for a few years and let it grow out, bud, and just go crazy. Then, when you come back to it, you have more options right in front of you.
3) Regardless of your approach, it is going to take time. That's the main thing.
