Title: Beech raft
Post by: boon on May 05, 2011, 12:29 PM
it is a fun project.  my student brought this tree to me about 2 years ago.  we discuss what we should do to it.  what do we do with that long large branch.  we decided to make a raft.  the plrocess start with airlayering it right where the first branch was.  we use 2 pieces of copper wire tying tightly where we want the root to grow.  we did not plan to separate it till next year(2 year from layering.)  but it has enough root.  we decide to grow it in the wooden box.  it was a lot of fun.

Wow!  I can't wait to see what you're able to do with this one.

This one is a long term project.  We will have to select new leader, work on small trees let them grow and thicken.  It will probably be a 10 year project.  I will keep every one update on the progress.
After all bonsai is about being patient.  Planning and let the trees develop are important factors to make a good bonsai.
