Title: Two new junipers
Post by: Hotaction on October 26, 2010, 01:43 PM
Picked these two junipers up today, and got a pretty good deal.  I snapped some before pictures as soon as i got home.  They were in the clearance section, and could use to be a little bit healthier before work starts on them.  I'll clean them out a little bit over the next few days and post some updated pictures after the initial cleaning.

From a specialist bonsai nursery or a normal garden centre?

They certainly look good from here...

It was a wholesale landscape nursery, not grown for bonsai.

Any idea on the variety?

I see you have the 2 most important tools for anyone serious about bonsai (beer and a weedeater).  :)

I can even do bonsai without the weedeater.

Well, this is as far as I've gotten with one of the two.  The variety is Pfitzer, according to the tag.

Dave, cool. You must have tough hands....... I am grafting mine with Shimpaku, just doing approach grafts. Primarily to shorten the interior branch length and to get foliage that my sensitive hands can deal with. John

...the third MOST important tool - latex gloves. I cannot understand why I did not start sooner with these...

John, I learned my lesson the hard way, this time it was two pairs of latex gloves with garden gloves over the top, and my forearms were wrapped with that non-stick medical tape stuff.  That shimp foliage is well worth the effort!

Ok, quick update.  Repotted drastically.
