Time to Dig?
« on: January 12, 2014, 02:57 PM »
Hello I am in Seattle.  I am wondering if anyone might suggest the best time to dig up conifers I've been growing as landscape plants but want to bonsai? I'd like to start soon since our temps are in the 40s.   One is a dwarf Cryptomaria and the other is a contorted pine of some sort.

Larry, Late feb.- march. give me a ring, I'll give you a hand.
picking up a load of pumice next weekend, which you'll want some of.
Pick up some anderson flats in the meantime if you get a chance.
good to see you on here, a great resource.

I also live in NW. We have had a very mild winter if any. There is a cold snap coming up this week but after that fill your boots. Conifers I find are happy when lifted early and they get an earlier start. Just be carefull if it gets cold again. Keep out of wind.
Good Luck
