Thuja occidentalis initial rough styling
« on: June 16, 2014, 05:56 PM »
This tree was collected last April. I think this is the fastest I've gone with a Thuja from collection to initial styling, but this tree recovered well and all the necessary branches existed.

It is a challenging tree and compromises had to be made. My goal was to make it compact, create tension, and emphasize the two kinks in the trunks which are laced with deadwood. Large areas of the trunks have natural shari that is still covered in bark. This will slowly be revealed over the coming years.
