There are baits and fungal treatments (they infest the termites' bodies).  I have only dealt with carpenter ants.  I submerged the tree for a few hours and after removing as many as possible, nuked the cavity with some commercial pesticides.

not too up on over-the counter stuff.  Guessing Orthene though.  Anyone?  I would drench the soil really well after application regardless to leach out chemicals from pot.

owen tell me what you think about this which makes good sense to me. someone suggested that you buy the over counter termite control product soak cotton balls in it then place a bag round the trunk with the soaked cotton ball during a hot day and let the vapors fumigate the trunk. cause it really sound like the best way to go as none of the chemicals will get into the roots and that how terminex does for a house it look like the circus took over your house

I believe that's how Nick Lenz kills stuff like borers.  Sounds logical

Because of the heat?  Set up a small/temporary/makeshift greenhouse to get the heat up during the day.  For that matter, stick it in your car parked in the sun...

that would work but i have no problem waiting till spring as the termites added some valleys and detail deadwood that can not be created by hand
