Title: Spruce #2
Post by: Hotaction on April 27, 2011, 01:40 PM
Found this after digging Spruce #1 (http://bonsaistudygroup.com/conifer-bonsai-discussion/spruce-1/msg9410/#new).  Pulled it up like a carrot, it took about 30 seconds.  It is now in a concrete mixing tub for a few years.

Ok, I had a friend stop over the other night, and I taught him how to begin to approach and wire a tree like this.  He did most of the wiring, and overall I was proud of him for his first time effort.  He was excited to take a few skills back home to his trees.  This is the result.

Great work Dave!

Is it a Douglas Spruce?

Do you ever go collecting in the fall?

I imagine it is either a black spruce or red spruce, or a hybrid of the two.

As for fall collecting, I haven't done too much, but many who do provide bottom heat and good shelter through the winter.

Thanks,  It is turface and chicken grit (cruched granite).
