Title: Spruce #1
Post by: Hotaction on April 27, 2011, 01:34 PM
I spotted this in the summer of '09 and dug it up Spring '10.  It went into a wooden box that was made from scraps and rotted quite nicely.  It went perfectly into this big mica pot after I removed three thick dead roots.  The tree put on tremendous root growth and I didn't cut any.  I gave it a light pruning after getting it secured and watered.

Nice looking tree. It's working up well. How are these at pushing backbudding?

Rock, Thanks for the compliment.  As far as back budding, it is almost ridiculous, it will be a chore removing all the extra buds for years to come.

Looking very nice Dave!  How long did you leave it in the wood box before putting it in a bonsai pot?

Thanks Chris.  The box fell apart, so it was more or less slip potted after only one year.  Now some shots after a wiring to set some primary branches for the future.

Looking good, Dave.  What tools are you using for carving?

Thanks John, I have been using a dremel with the assorted bits that came with the kit.

Awesome transformation Dave.
You've got the eye. You've got the 'tools'.
Great material too!
I don't believe anyone else here in CNY has all these things.
Keep it coming.
