Slant/informal procumbens
« on: June 06, 2011, 06:51 PM »
Hello all. This is a tree I have been training for about 2 1/2 years. It is about 12 inches tall. About 1 1/2 months ago, I repotted it into it's final bonsai pot. I cleaned it up a bit over the last weekend. In the future, I plan to just keep it's shape by pinching and maybe adding more shari. Also, while keeping the foliage in check and the trunk thickening a bit over the next few years or so, will make the proportions even better.

Since nathan mentioned the shari, what are your plans for it?  Straight up the front of the trunk or will it wrap around?

I really like this, the movement etc.  Great job for just 2  1/2 years.   Will look better as the bark weathers aswell.  Plenty of time to consider the options for the shari too.

Thank you everyone.. I am not sure about the shari, I might have it wrap around or come up the front. I might bring it to a workshop to get my teachers opinion first. ;D

While keeping the foliage in check, do you pinch, prune, both?  What's been the process thus far, and will it change in the near future?

Also, what's your location?  I can't remember at the moment.

Hello Matsu... mostly future pinching since the tree is  well ramified for a procumbens and it's size. Over the last 2 1/2 years it has been mostly scissor pruning though.. Something I have worked closely on with this tree. However, if things get too out of hand, I will take the scissors to it.. Also, I am located in the Northeast.. MA
