Title: Sawara Cypress
Post by: boon on October 15, 2010, 02:35 AM
we have worked on this tree for 6 years.   it started out as a round ball.  the pads were separated.  in 2006, we almost throw it out.
it stayed reddish until mid May.  we thought it was dead.   but before we did it, we looked inside the canopy, it still have some green needle.  we decided to leave it another week.  it did turn green.  since then, we know that this tree will change color slower than any other tree.
we are getting it ready for the show this coming Jan 2011.
first pic is the tree and possible new (old) pot to be used.
i prune the tree
and picture taken from the top

Wow. That's a great little tree. The Sawara cypress I've seen are usually scraggly ugly things sold by street vendors. This one is exceptional

Great Tree.  What are it's dimensions.  Do you have any before pics of the tree.  I like to see the transformation of it.

Interesting Sawara, I have never seen one with that type of foliage. The foliage resembles Cryptomeria japonica Tansu or similar variety. Would be nice to know where the tree came from in case there are more.
