Potential bonsai?

I've got this pine tree that's been growing in a pot for a few years. I feel like it could be a really good candidate for a bonsai- it has a thick trunk, dense root ball and is already kind of stunted. I was hoping I could get some input from you guys on if it could be a good bonsai and how to proceed with it if it is? (Also if someone could identify the particular species that would be awesome!)

Looks like an Eastern white pine, Pinus strobus.   This species produces long needles which are difficult to reduce.  Also the trunk looks to be too thin for its current height so the tree will need to be shortened and a new apex created.  This can be done along with other styling work that is needed.
