Title: Juniper Cascade
Post by: bwaynef on February 24, 2011, 01:26 PM
I originally bought this material as garden stock for $25 for a contest @ bonsaiTalk.  I opted not to enter it and instead worked with Ron Martin on this tree (and another shimpaku).  I've never posted it online so this is it's debut.  If I'm not mistaken I wired it fully in 2009, and 2010 I only pruned off whips of growth.  Its been in this mica cascade pot since 2007 and I see no real need to repot it anytime soon.

I'll update this one when I get to working on it, but wanted to post while I had the pictures handy.

Wayne,

Any chance you remember the variety?  What did Ron have to say about it back then?  What are your thoughts now?  I can't wait to see it all wired up.  :)

I'm not sure, but I believe its one of the varieties that starts with P.  Phitzer-something, Parsonii.  I don't remember him having a whole lot to say about it particularly.  I do remember buying my first shimpaku the day we worked on this and him demonstrating all the ways shimpaku were superior.  No prickly foliage.  Bendable branches...  I was converted then and there.

I haven't had a chance to do anything with it, but will post pictures when I do.

Wayne, this loooks like it will work into a nice little tree.  Keep us posted.

Looking forward to seeing this tree again all wired up.
