JBP candle question
« on: June 03, 2013, 12:20 AM »
I live in the Bay Area of Nor Cal and It is time to start de candling the JBPs. This is my first go round at decandling and I have read a lot of post and books on the subject. Dispit that I am still a little confussed as to just where to make the cut. This is this trees first decandling. All the pictures I can find show trees that have already been styled and have very short candles. This tree is in a 10 gallon nursery pot and has very long candles.
Can some one please look at the picture I have here and tell me where to make the cut. If I should cut at either of the lines or some place else.
Your help is appreciated.

The bottom one.

You really ought to get Boon's JBP DVDs.

Cut just above the needles, join BIB and learn from Boon. If you can't figure it out from the masses of literature/postings here, then you need to see it. The video on decandling starts with a tree in an ealy stage of development like yours. You may want to wait a few weeks so the summer candles don't grow too long there in the South Bay.

Don,

I think I've said this before, but since you live in the Bay area, you really ought to get to know Boon.  I fly over there 3 times a year to take his Intensives.  The travel costs are much greater than the fee I pay him!  Since you live where he does, I can't understand why you haven't taken advantage of your opportunity.

Jonas D is consolidating notes from a number of us, along with his own and photos of his trees to detail candle and needle management in JBP/JRP. Look at the Bonsai Tonight website.
