Hinoki Cypress Rough Nursery Stock
« on: May 31, 2011, 06:54 PM »
Hello all,
This is a Hinoki that I found at a local garden center. I thought that it had some potential and it was only around $40.

It turned out to be a tougher styling job than I thought. The branches that I thought I was going to keep needed to be removed. Also, branches that I thought I would remove, I ended up keeping. I do like working with this species. Although they can be difficult because of the refusal to back bud.

Pic 1 is the tree as is.
Pic 2 is the tree after pruning but before wiring
Pic 3 is the tree after wiring.
Pic 4 is the tree in it's grow pot.

Comments always welcome

Rob

Rob, great eye. I really like how this little tree has progressed, you have found a tree in this material.

Thank you very much John...The tree will need to stay in there for 2-3 years to recover. It will be a bit tricky..on one hand, I want the tree to grow a massive amount of foliage, but I also need to keep it in check because of die back.. We will see what the tree wants to do  ;D

Thank you gtuthill.. The tree seems to be doing well, but it has only been a few weeks.
