boon:
i just finished pruning this mature cryptomeria.  it takes about 3 days to complete.  the process is tedious and slow.  scissors has to be really sharp or the branches will die back. this is the result of the work.

Hi Boon,

Thanks for the picture.  I am surprised at how much cut back it appears was done as I remember seeing it just a few months ago.  How long will it take to grow back in and how often would you do major pruning work like this for this species?  Thanks again.

For those who have never seen this tree in person, it is quite large! Probably over 3 feet tall, if I remember correctly.

Very nice work and a good job of keeping it healthy, but I find it quite boring to look at, sorry.

keep it green,

I think it is great! Good formal uprights are rare.

Not to hijack your thread, Boon. But I am caring for a large Cryptomeria that our club bought for future demo material. I don't have much experience with this species. I'd like to repot it from the 15 gallon nursery pot to a smaller training box. Should I wait until spring or is it safe to do in the fall?

Thanks,

Paul
