Title: Demo/Raffle Tree, Western Juniper
Post by: John Kirby on January 21, 2013, 01:11 PM
Boon and his Senior, Daisaku Nomoto, joined in and did a demonstration styling of this kifu/chuhin sized Western Juniper yesterday at Lake Merritt, in Oakland. They did a nice presentation with Jonas (aka bonsaitonight.com) doing the commentary. I bought my usual $20 worth of raffle tickets and let John Thompson (best known for his excellent work with and collecting of native oaks), sell me a second $20 worth. Well, Won the raffle with the first ticket of the second set. Here is a picture of the tree with Boon and Daisaku. Will post some tree pictures my next trip out to work trees.

Don, this picture doesn't show the hump or if you listen to some, the evil, vindictive tounge and laser that spew forth in a derogatory fashion, so to speak. Plus it was a lot of fun and I finally got to meet Frankie Tree (aka Cucchiara), Frank made the weekend even more fun than I could have hoped for!

Congratulations John
Will you go ahead and pot it up in a Bonsai pot come March or let it rest for a year?

Don, not sure yet. The tree was collected last year, styled this year, may need to sit till next year. I will check and discuss with Boon and make a decision.

Frank K- you are alive and opting! Good to see you!

Yes alive and enjoying layoff.  This working a real job sucks, no time for trees.  My goal durning layoff is to sell off as much as I can.  Carolyn enjoyed seeing your smiling face.
