Today's collected J. Virginiana
« on: March 24, 2012, 07:52 PM »
I went hunting this afternoon with my oldest daughter and brought home, 4 j. virginiana, what I think will make some good shohin in the future. The top soil around these little trees was fine top soil, but about an 1/8 of an inch below that was all hard Northwestern Missouri clay. I bare rooted, planted in 100% diatomaceous earth and treated with super thrive and myconox. From the smallest they range from 4 inches to a little over 9 inches. All of the roots were good with new feeders beginning to sprout. I removed very little of the roots. Only enough so they would fit in the training pots. No foliage was removed. I have learned my lesson with that already.

As always I am looking for advice as I am a 15 year beginner.
