This Ashe Juniper wa collected by Vito Megna in the 90's. Howard and Sylvia Smith purchased the tree from Vito, did a good deal of work on the roots and did a very nice styling of the tree. I bought the tree from Howard and Sylvia and rewired it. In 2007 Marco invernizzi restyled the tree dramatically and made a real change to it. In 208, the tree had grown well and Mike Hagedorn restyled the tree, making it even more compact, Akio picked this tree off the bench, it had grown well and I was getting ready to prune it back, and pruned and rewired it. The tree has gained a good deal of ramification and has been reduced to about 1/2 he original volume of the crown. Selective pruning and pinching will be used to work this tree in to a more refined state, hopefully it should be ready for the LSBF show in Dallas next year, it may be too sparse still, but will see.
This is a great native species that works in the hot parts of the country and should be used more frequently. This species has gained a bit of a bad reputation as hard to transplant, but it can be effectively worked with good technique.
