MBG Japanese Festival
« on: September 02, 2010, 06:41 AM »
Good Morning All.

The Missouri Japanese Festival 2010 will be held this weekend and the Bonsai Club of Greater St. Louis will have its late summer show in the Orthwein Floral Display Hall. The festival and show runs Saturday through Monday. Several thousand people will see our bonsai show and several hundred should sit through the demonstrations. Lindsay Shiba from Mt. Fuji Garden Center in Upland, CA is the quest artist this year and last night at our monthly club meeting he demonstrated rock planting formations and we auctioned the final creation. We in store for a great bonsai filled holiday weekend.

All,

My Japanese Musk Maple took the for Best Deciduous Tree Honors and I have a nice ribbon to show for it. The tree was purchase from Don Backmond at Gregory Beach Bpnsai last year. Thanks Don. Lindsay Shiba thought it was a great tree. That makes two trees from you I had ribbons for in judged shows (other a JBP). Both are shohin. It great to know that they can compete against the bigger trees. The Itoigawa again generated a lot of interest. Its a real crowd pleased. Photographed a lot. I'll post pics when I have some time.

We received the attendance numbers for the first day of the Japanese Festival yesterday. On Sat just shy of 13,000 were let in through the entrance. Remember this is a three day festival. Late yesterday afternoon the  new president of the Missouri Botanical Garden Dr. Peter Jackson came into the Orthwein Floral Display Hall and viewed the Bonsai display. Glen Pauly our president and myself gave he and his family a guided tour of our show and had a great time with them.

Hope to post pics soon.

I will post pics soon. Took some and some others coming from club members. Trying to catch up. 4 really busy days. Almost 13,000 per day attended the festival not counting exhibitors suppliers and members. Final counts out this week.

The JWP is owned by a club member. Photo does not do it justice. It is a good size tree. I am not sure of its history.

and a few more

not a bad collection of trees, and it's nice that we are able to hold our show at an event that draws such a large crowd

Excellent.  Thanks for sharing.

Our local club show is during a fairly well visited flower sale at a small arboretum in April.  The display is setup in a (poorly lit) bank barn.  Most of the sales tables and vendors are outdoors, so during hot years or rainy days our display is very well attended.  :)
