Carolina Bonsai Expo 2011
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:04 PM »
October 8-9, 2011, 16 clubs from 6 states will put on a display of bonsai that's proven to be uncommon in the USA.  (See previous years' threads for more ideas as to what that means.)  There will be 10 vendors creating a huge selection of bonsai paraphernalia to choose from.  There will be several workshops, lectures, and a critique available.  The guest artist will be Walter Pall bringing his naturalistic roadshow with him.

For more information:http://www.ncarboretum.org/plan-a-visit/events/carolina-bonsai-expo .

If you're interested in any of the workshops or lectures, I'd encourage you to hurry.  They've filled up pretty quickly in the past.

HotAction/Dave has seen the Ponderosas for the workshop with WP and has attested that they're very much worth the price.

It will be.  I wish I had some way to record WP's critique ...but maybe he could come hit the highlights afterward.  I'll try to get some pics of his demonstration/lecture.

I have the pictures, and I'll be uploading them this afternoon.  Overall it was good.  There were some more creative displays.  Some ...not so much.  I've heard most of Walter's lecture before, but it was pretty informative hearing it altogether with pictures.  He did a good job.  I didn't get to see the Scots pine he worked on after he finished it, but I got the "finished" picture from the demo.  (He ran out of time and was supposed to finish it during a workshop the following day, along with a (gasp) literati lodgepole pine.)

John Geneangel was working on recording the critique ..and maybe parts of the demo.  Hopefully he or ken will fill us in on whether that happened.

As mentioned earlier, I've got pics of every tree on display, and most of the displays.  I'll work to get them posted this afternoon/evening.
