Yet another Potter ID help......
« on: February 23, 2012, 09:36 AM »
I picked up a few pots while at Kokufu and then traveling around Japan. One of the pots, I will post a picture later, I picked up in the Green club was attributed to the artist (potter) who is identified by text in photo. Any help in sorting this one out? Help appreciated. John

The color is called "Oribee".  The name is unknown.  Rare pot though according to Fujikawa-San  :).  He thought maybe the same name as posted above but a guess for sure.

Owen,
Ive long loved watching you in videos, you have some serious Kung fu!
You are correct, pots by this potter are very rare.
John,
Think you could post a pic of the pot you bought and it's stamp?  Then I might be able to give you some more info.

OK, sorry for being upside down. Is an odd shaped pot, kind of interesting. John

Thanks.  Snake-crane style comes in handy over here with daily ninja confrontations  ;D.  We're trying to assist in relieving some  >:( in the bonsai community.  At the end of the day, bonsai should be an enjoyable experience.  I'm serious as a heart-attack when it comes to work but we have fun at lunch making the videos.  The pot identification database is very very nice.  Thanks.

Thanks Owen, agreed on all points about fun and work.  You guys levity brings a nice touch to the videos when it's there, bonsai should be fun AND serious! the blog and the database are a labor of love for me for sure!  Pots interest me almost as much as trees!  (and a huge collection like mine is exponentially easier to maintain than trees of the same caliber and number! Got a date with your video partner coming up in a month...I'm mad looking forward to it(hope there no Ninjas)
Ill take a look around for the stamp John, looks familiar.

So I was pretty sure I had this pot nailed, but since it was billed as a different potter(from the one in the book), I wanted to confirm my assumption.  This stamp us actually available on the Bonsaiplaza Hanko site.  This pot was made by Seisyo, from Saitama.  My Japanese pottery friends in Saitama who I confirmed This with gave me some additional info, as well.  He was a stonemason and began making pots 10 years ago.  Often feature carvings and are handmade.  Unfortunately, NOT the potter from the book...sorry John.

Hey John,
So I was leafing through my bonsai pot books trying to find an old stamp, and I happened upon another interesting piece of information on that pot....the man who sold it to you, attributing to the potter in the Japanese bonsai pot book dedicated to small pots?  Well, he was very very close.  The page you show in the picture is page 32...if he'd turned back 1 page he'd have it!  Seisyo pots are featured on page 31!  Could perhaps in light of that info have been an honest mistake.

Thanks, I missed it in my quick survey. The gentleman I purchased the pot from at the Green Club, marked the page and gave me the book with the pot, I picked the page that had the long end of the torn piece of newspaper marking it, I should have looked at the page with the short end! Thanks, I liked the pot because it is very different and is handmade. gain, many thanks.
