Tokoname Master Watanabe Akira
« on: October 24, 2010, 08:41 PM »
Good Evening All,

Looking for information about Tokoname Master Mr. Watanabe Akira from Kasama, trade name Akira Shouzan. I just purchase one of his pots and a google search turns up very little. Anybody have any information on him from your Japanese pottery books?

Thanks & Regards,

JRob

Josef,

I'll post a pic this weekend.

I have been corresponding with a gentleman at Tokoname Yuyaku Company, Ltd who has visited the Akira Shouzan studio. Master Akira was born in 1922 and is retired and no longer making pots. His daughter and her husband have continued his work and now run his studio. The gentleman at Yuyaku does not know if Mr. Akira is still alive but is getting more information for me. Evidently Master Akira's pottery is very desirable and collectable.
