Round Cascade Pots?
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:36 PM »
Most of the cascade pots I have seen seem to be square-ish (some hexagonal as well). Some semi-cascades are circular from what I have seen, but I am just wondering if there is an aesthetic (or functional?) reason you don't see any full-cascade round pots? Just curious if anyone else has noticed this.

Are you looking at Japanese pots or American pots only?  There are plenty of round cascades, but it just depends on how much you want to spend.  There seems to be a dearth of high quality pots available here in my region, IMHO.  I have been looking for feminine semi-cascade pots to no avail for over a year and a half.  I finally found a Bunzan pot that I think will fit, but it came from Japan.

Tamba Pots from Japan are great for conifers.  Here is a middle crossing Chinese round container.

It's warped on top but bottom is level.  I'll post a better pic later.  I know Paul Kattich (who posts here) can make whatever you want.

I have a small chinese pussy willow cascade on the go an think that a rounded pot would be better since the square ones look pretty masculine. I hadn't seen many online while searching and just wondered if it was an aesthetic reason (all cascade pots must be square!) or whether there just weren't many feminine type trees that were styled as a cascade etc.

Thanks for the info!

Jlushious:

Not all cascade pot must be squared. They can be rounded like you say depending on the tree. There is a pottery in UK (Erin) were you can order a custom one. My friend just order one square with round edges in order to give a softer looked necessary for the tree. Erin even gave it an awesome glazed. I will send it to you via text message. We have some available in our page also.

Best regards
