Need help id a pot
« on: January 30, 2014, 06:24 PM »
I bought this jun glazed pot at a bonsai convention. The glaze is very thick and flows to the feet. Can anyone help identify the potter? The mark is mp within a large C?

Chuah,

This is actually an American made pot. It was made by Mary P. Case. I don't know much about her but I did own a few of her pots in the past. She seems to have made mostly glazed shohin rounds which were thrown on the wheel. Personally, I would consider this glaze much more of a namako than a jun glaze.

Thanks for identifying the potter. It is callled a namako in Japanese, a yixing jun in Chinese but the glaze differs from the traditional northern jun wares which has a more even light to drak blue glaze, occasionally with splashes of purple and red from yohen. I have a yixing jun shohin pot, the glaze looks almost like the Mary Cate pot.
