Pot to Identify
« on: April 23, 2012, 07:30 PM »
Hello again!
I bought this pot at a local bonsai store in Detroit, MI area in the early 90's. It seems to read "SM Muth" "76". Does anyone know anything about this pot?

Hi There,

Your pot was made by Sharon Muth, founder of Bonsai Northwest here in Seattle. She is a dear friend of mine and hasn't made pots in a long time now. Back in the day, she had the largest kiln in the country for firing bonsai pots. She threw many pots on the wheel and made more glazed pots than unglazed. She is a wonderful woman and I'm happy you have one of her pots. If you have any more questions, just let me know. Enjoy!

Thank you so much! Is it possible the number refers to a date? Could it be 1976 or 1979? Was she potting during those years?

Hello again,

Yes, the '76 refers to the year of production. Almost all of her pots are dated. '76 was one of her top production years. Sharon is still very active in the bonsai scene and is always pruning away at trees in the nursery. I often have the pleasure of working by her side.

Best Regards,
