Title: Another Pot ID
Post by: oakandwalnut on March 30, 2012, 06:36 PM
Please let me know if you can help me ID this pot. It has an ink stamp that says  "Cheristar K Japan". Any help would be appreciated!

Most probably Chinese, but I have seen a couple Japanese pots exported from Japan by Cheristar, all inexpensive.  Cheristar was an export firm, and to the best of my ability to tell, had their heyday in the 80s.  I've seen loads of pots exported to the US by the company.

Japanese bonsai containers labeled "Cheristar" were imported to the US in the 1960s. These Japanese containers from Tokoname were sold by Yuji Yoshimura and other fine bonsai nurseries.

The ones I've seen and have are very high quality.

I have picked up a number of these over the ears, mostly small, but as Bill points out very well made and of good clay. John

That's great information Bill!  The ones I have seem to be of low to middling quality.  Nice to know theyre a bit older than I thought!
