Good Evening All,

Here is a pot my wife gave me for my birthday last year. Pot is Koyo or Kouyou as identified in several chop databases. I am curious as to the calligraphy. I know that several potters used the Koyo chop. Any id on this littel shohin beauty? The pot has never been uses and still has an original label inside the pot. I've included pictures.

The part written in the pot
says Koyo-zo (made by Koyo).  The stuff on the sticker is the size and shape.  Nice pot

i heard that Koyo wont be making pots much longer as he is getting very old. Owen anything to add to this?

Tokufuji-S(h)ukho-Koyo-?

I generally look over the top of the tree I'm wiring to answer these kinds of questions via my Sempai Maeoka-San (he makes pots and knows lots of cool stuff about Japanese ceramic history).  Koyo pots will not be made by forever by the same people.  He may have a son who makes pottery.

I don't know about the lineage of the of the glaze.  Glaze recipes, firing temps, and clay blends are not really shared by potters here from what I can tell.  My knowledge of pots is limited and generally answer as I learn myself  :).

My impression of the lineage of recognized bluish/greenish pots (valued ones) was from Tanaka-san, more as an indicator of age/era than direct sharing. But, if the Koyo line ends- someone will need to pick it up-

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that glaze lineage, John, I've mentioned this a lot on the pottery blog.  Except these green-blue colors are often variations on the old old Chinese Oribe and Sea Cucumber glazes, as such -Chinese-Tofukuji-Ino Shukuho-Koyo...Ikko/Bushuan.  Interesting note to this, late in life Tofukuji fired pots in Shukuhos kiln, as 2nd generation Shukuho and Tofukuji were friends and both from Kyoto.
As to Koyo, he makes very very few pots now.  Prices are relatively stable unlike some other potters.  Only 3 potters make pots stamped with Koyo chop, Aiba Koyou, His wife, Kouso(though her pots will be signed as such), and 2nd generation Koyo, AKA Juko.  Juko now runs the kiln, and uses a different stamp from his father.

And JRob, to answer your question, your pot is Aiba Koyo, 1st generation.  This particular stamp and signature indicates that it's production line(although still hand made, unique, and pricey, relative to the production lines of other Tokoname potters).  Koyo senior pots with the Arch stamp(these are home kiln fired pots, I've been told) are the second most valuable, and pots with the Japanese fan stamp(I thought it was a Ginko leaf too!) are his "signature" line, And often feature very unique glazes, single block construction, and more detailed feet and, bands, and rim.
