Collected American elm
« on: June 24, 2016, 11:46 PM »
I received a call this afternoon from someone that was dozing shale dunes in an old quarry. He said there was a tree that I may be interestd in and that I should get there asap or it would be gone. End of June and not prime for collecting. But it was only 79 here today in Northwestern Missouri. Made my way out to the quarry, on my bike, and with only some rusty bipass pruners, rusty saw and some walmart bags. The tree was midway up about 30 feet in this dune. Loose shale. With only one tap root to cut. A fair amount of feeders as well. Anyway. Dug the tree. Hiked 3 miles back to my bike. Put it in my saddle bag and road home. Potted in 100% pumice and under the bench for a few weeks now.
